DEPTH OF FIELD

Depth of field is determined by the Aperture setting and the subject distance and is the amount of the photograph that is in focus.

  • A more open (eg f2.8) aperture gives you a narrower depth of field.

  • A more closed aperture (eg f22) gives you a wider depth of field.

  • A short focal length gives you a narrow depth of field.

  • A long focal length gives you a wider depth of field.

A small aperture is often used for sports, resulting in a faster shutter speed and a narrow depth of field
